What I Learned After Starting a Lip Care Brand

What I Learned After Starting a Lip Care Brand

When I first started Kiss & Kare, I thought lip gloss was mostly about shine and cute packaging.

But after creating products, testing formulas, and listening to customers, I realized lip care is way deeper than that.

Here are a few things I’ve learned along the way 💋

1. Shiny doesn’t always mean hydrating

A lot of glosses look good for a few minutes but leave your lips feeling dry later.

I used to think sticky gloss was just normal… until I realized it doesn’t have to be.

That’s one reason I became so focused on lightweight, comfortable, non-sticky formulas that actually feel good on the lips.

2. Ingredients matter more than people think

I learned that oils and conditioning ingredients can completely change how a gloss feels and wears throughout the day.

Hydration matters just as much as shine.

That’s why nourishing ingredients became such a big focus for me when creating products.

3. Thicker doesn’t always mean better

One thing that surprised me was realizing that heavy formulas are not automatically more moisturizing.

Some glosses feel thick at first but end up uncomfortable or drying over time.

I learned that lightweight formulas can still feel nourishing, glossy, and comfortable without that heavy, sticky feeling.

4. Lip prep changes everything

Another thing I learned is that healthy lips make a huge difference in how lip products perform.

Simple things like exfoliating gently, staying hydrated, and using lip balm consistently can completely change how your gloss or lip oil looks and feels.

5. People want products that fit real life

Some days you want a bold glossy look.

Other days you just want something moisturizing to throw in your bag before class, work, or running errands.

Lip care should feel easy, wearable, and comfortable for everyday life.

That’s honestly one reason I love minis too. They make trying new shades, scents, and formulas feel fun without a huge commitment.

6. Beauty should feel GOOD

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that beauty products should boost your confidence — not make you uncomfortable.

No one wants:

  • sticky lips
  • heavy formulas
  • hair constantly stuck to gloss
  • lips feeling dry an hour later

Lip products should feel just as good as they look!

Starting Kiss & Kare taught me that lip care is really about confidence, comfort, and self-care all in one.

If you’ve been looking for vegan, cruelty-free lip products that are glossy and hydrating, this is your sign to try Kiss & Kare 💛
